Welcome

Situated at 15 Dugan Street, Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, the Goldfields Women's Health Care Centre provides clinical services, health information and referral for women.

A not for profit organization, the Centre is overseen by Goldfields Women's Health Care Association Inc Management Committee. Initially established in 1986 by a group of volunteers, the service was provided for 2 hours per week out of the Golden Mile Community House. In 1987 rooms were rented in Hannan Street and volunteers provided a service for 4 hours, 3 days a week. The service was supported by community donations and fundraising.

The Centre was purchased in 1988 with assistance from the Lotteries Commission.

In 1989 funding was secured from the Health Department of WA for operational expenses. This made employing a paid Coordinator and Administration Officer possible.

With grants from the Lotteries Commission and Community Donations the Centre has undergone two extensions, one in 1996 and again in 2004, to allow for expansion of services.

2006 saw the Association celebrating 20 years and this was acknowledged by holding a Women's Health Forum on the 28th and 29th April 2006. The forum was attended by over 300 people and gave those participating up to date information on various issues relating to women's health. Presenters included Dr Rosie King, sex and relationship therapist, and Dr Susan Maushart, author and journalist.

The Association remains strong and has established many successful partnerships with local government and non government organizations which enables delivery of various clinical services for women at the Centre.
