On behalf of the GWHCC we would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas & a wonderful New Year

The Goldfield Womens Health Care Centre (GWHCC) now provides Sexual Assault Support Services (SASS) and counselling to people who have been
sexually assaulted or sexually abused at some time in the past (there are no restrictions based on how long ago the assault or abuse took
place).
SASS counsellors are experienced in providing counselling to deal with the aftermath of sexual assault and sexual abuse.
In counselling, clients will meet face to face with a counsellor after they have first made contact with SASS by phone 08 90218266 or
mob 0499167639 or interagency referral.
The counsellor will focus on the client’s feelings and emotional reactions and together with the client, explore strategies to help them to
recover from the trauma and to feel in control of their lives. Clients will not be forced to talk about anything they do not want to talk
about.
In counselling, clients can expect to:
Be treated with dignity, respect and understanding
Be believed
Have an opportunity to express feelings and thoughts without being judged
Receive accurate information
Make decisions in their own time
Communicate in their own language, with the help of an interpreter if required
A counselling session is usually 50 minutes to 1 hour in length. As a general guide, SASS can offer up to 10 counselling sessions per
client, and there are no fees.

"I am absolutely stoked to be working at GWHCC as a counsellor as I am completing my psychology registration program. I have always
enjoyed working in the not-for-profit space and providing help and support to those that need it. My passion is working from person-centred
therapy modalities and holistic approaches. I have previously worked in drug and alcohol treatment for adults and young people. My
treatment interests include working with trauma, personality disorders and attachment, as well as supporting and growing our healthy adult.
I was born in Kalgoorlie and lived here until I was about 5 before moving to be closer to family, eventually coming back to my hometown and
absolutely loving it. I love spending time outside and in nature, especially with my dog. I have just returned from a 6-month holiday
travelling around Australia and experiencing all the beauty our home has to offer. I love travelling and experiencing new things, learning
everything I can and sharing with those around me. I aspire to make a positive impact on those around me and think we can all continue to
learn from each other throughout our lives. I can’t wait to see where this job takes me and to be more involved in our community."

"I couldn’t think of working anywhere else in Kal than with Women. Working with women and empowering them to reach their full potential
is a passion of mine. If our women are safe and well, then our children grow and flourish in our community. I have worked in community
development in all areas for over 30 years in both private and public sectors. I am a narrative therapist at heart and use other
evidence-based therapies such as CBT, DBT, Schema and EMDR in Counselling Practices, I am also in my final semester of Psychology Science.
Born in Port Hedland, I have lived the rural life for the most part, but today call Kalgoorlie home. I am a mother, grandmother
and wife that loves baking bread, painting portraits and growing herbs. I love fishing, bush walks, exploring the reef and sitting in the
sun in nature with a cup of tea.
I am a researcher currently completing a PhD in Health Science, looking at integrated models of care in the field of sexual
assault, I am seeking more knowledge for the benefit of sharing it for better outcomes in our community. I am basically a tree hugger,
loving earth care and sustainable practices in life. I believe Reuse, Recycle and Reduce is a great motto to live by. Taking an integrative
approach to basically everything which values our people and planet, I believe even though is it the people that are important, we all need a
healthy planet to nourish us in our lives. I believe you must “Be the change you want to see”.

“I’m absolutely over the moon to be helping the Goldfields community as a Client Services Officer at GWHCC. I am currently studying
externally my BA of Laws and I am a graduate of a Diploma of Performing Arts and Classical Cecchetti training.
Born in Kal, I grew up in tightknit mining towns such as Coolgardie, Port Hedland and Kalgoorlie, where I currently live with my family
while I finish home renos on mine and my partner’s new house. In my spare time I love to read novels, experiment with tea, and go camping
and fishing in Espo.
I pride myself on being an intuitive and calming presence, here to offer friendly advice to whoever would like it. I strongly believe in
always seeing the best in people, and love celebrating when people accomplish the goals they set for themselves. I love listening to
people’s life stories, in which life lessons I may learn myself are always embedded. My mantra is ‘practice makes progress, not
perfection’.”

Some Happy Day is an independent feature film made with, and in, the community where the story is set: St Kilda. The Film encapsulates

tears. A triumph of filmmaking. Tender, uplifting and bravely honest.” – Nikki Gemmell, author and journalist
“A sensitive, gritty portrayal of the shadows we all carry and the courage it takes to find our way through.” – Tim Costello AO
“An unflinching and articulate story that works not only as a deeply poignant drama, but as an unapologetic statement against the devastation wrought by Australia’s widening wealth gap … Some Happy Day is a story of connection, perseverance, and community.” – James

Either with a cosy cuppa or chill Chardy, as a group we will search online for stories and details on women’s contributions in local history
to be part of the project.
Sip and Search are a series of social nights open to anyone who would like to be involved and help contribute to the 130 Women project in a
relaxed, informal setting. Just as social as it is research, we’ll be working through our list of women through online resources to
fact-check and learn more of these women’s stories.
As we search, we'll share what we find and chat about the contributions these women have made.
Help the project work through the usual websites and explore wherever some of the rabbit holes lead us. You may have a particular person
you’d like to research or we have plenty you can choose from.

Carers WA and GWHCC partner to provide a local presence for Carer Gateway. The Goldfields Womens Health Care Centre (GWHCC) is thrilled to
be partnering with Carers WA, Carer Gateway’s lead service provider in WA, to support the local delivery of Carer Gateway services in the
Goldfields region. Carer Gateway is a federal government initiative providing a mix of free online, telephone and in-person supports,
services and advice for family carers in Australia. These services have been specifically designed and tested by carers to help reduce
stress and build resilience in the caring role. National Carers Week, 10th-16th October, provides an opportunity to recognise, celebrate and
raise awareness of the 2.65 million unpaid carers in Australia, and thank them for the unwavering care and support they provide to their
loved ones. Carers are an integral part of Australia’s health system and are the foundation of our aged, disability, palliative and
community care systems. GWHCC CEO Gloria Moyle who was a long-time carer of her loved ones, is very pleased to be able to provide a local
contact for Carer Gateway, with the support of Carers WA. She says “Carers in regional WA are already disadvantaged by having limited access
to vital services and are often forced to travel hundreds of kilometres to utilise what our city counterparts often take for granted. This
adds another later to the already overwhelmed carer, who is then expected to navigate a complicated system to get the assistance they
deserve”. The Carers WA Community Engagement team will be joining the GWHCC at this year’s Lorna Mitchell Spring Festival on Sunday 10th
October and are already on their way up the pipeline to promote their services to carers in the Goldfields area. For any further information
please contact Gloria Moyle (CEO – GWHCC) on 0407 711 445 or Brody MacLeod (Partnerships and Engagement Officer – Carers WA) 0479 112 210.
