The Goldfields Women’s Health Care Centre offers Infant and Perinatal Counselling with Nicole Wade, Credentialed Mental Health Nurse.

Perinatal mental health refers to the emotional and psychological wellbeing of a parent around the time of conception through to 12 months after a baby is born (the perinatal period).

The baby blues refers to women feeling teary, sad or irritable in the early days after giving birth (usually 7-10 days). New mothers experiencing the baby blues is common (up to 80% of mothers) and usually just lasts a couple of days.

However, if you are still feeling down after two weeks, talking to a professional such as Nicole is a good idea.

There are a number of mental health disorders that are unique to the perinatal period in which parents may need to seek professional help.

Mental health disorders that may be experienced during the perinatal period include:

Depression – antenatal and/or postnatal (up to 1 in 7 mothers and around 1 in 10 fathers)

Anxiety disorders – antenatal and/or postnatal (thought to be more common than depression and can occur on its own or co-occur with depression for either parent)

Postpartum psychosis is a psychiatric emergency– requires immediate medical attention (rare, 1-2 in 1000 mothers)

We haven’t even hit the halfway point of 2020 yet and already most of us have experienced more than a whole years worth of stressors. With natural disasters and a global pandemic touching each and everyone of us, is it little wonder we are feeling more than a little overwhelmed right now.

We aren’t born with the innate knowledge of how to process and cope with internal and external pressures, it’s a skill we need to learn and practice to maintain a calm and steady mindset to conquer all that life throws at us.

Join Lorraine Bianco from Conscious Living with Lorraine Bianco and our CEO Gloria Moyle for Tune in Tuesday. Lorraine will lead us through mindful meditation techniques via weekly Zoom sessions. The beauty of this being virtual sessions means we can reach participants Australia wide and even internationally, so if you have friends and family that you think could benefit from our weekly sessions please encourage them to join us.

Tune in Tuesday launches Tuesday 30 June at 12.30Pm

Urinary disorders affect many women around the world to varying degrees, many women have mild symptoms that only affect them occasionally, however urinary disorders can become severe and even impact daily activities and lower self esteem. Many women believe that their symptoms are normal and just put up with them, however seeking treatment for all symptoms can have a huge impact on quality of life.

Join Silpa Dasariraju, Senior Physiotherapist from Addlife Physiotherapy for a workshop discussing urinary incontinence. This  workshop will help the participants to learn about the role of the pelvic floor in their day to day living and the practical strategies on how to activate their pelvic floor to help them with their bladder and bowel continence.

About Silpa - I am a Titled Womens, Men`s and Pelvic Health Physio as awarded by APA (Australian Physiotherapy Association). My expertise and interest is in assisting Women, Men and children with the management of bladder and bowel incontinence, pelvic pain as well as the treatment of female pelvic organ prolapse and pregnancy related issues.
